Located in Black Canyon approximately 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Hoover Dam is an iconic piece of American construction history. This feat of engineering is 726.4 feet from foundation rock to the roadway on the crest of the dam. There are approximately 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete in the dam, powerplant and appurtenant works. Completed in 1935, the Hoover Dam currently has a yearly average generation of 4.5 billion kilowatt hours to serve the annual electrical demands of nearly eight million people in Arizona, southern California, and southern Nevada. The technical tour will include a guided tour of the powerplant, exhibit hall, and bypass bridge.
Shuttle loading will begin quickly after lunch for a prompt 2:00 pm departure.
